We greatly admire the generations of gay men who came before who didn’t have the opportunity to live an authentic and open life and be a father.

We foster a community of support to connect, equip and inspire gay dads and dads-to-be.
What inspired you to do what you do?
We founded The Handsome Father in 2013 based on our lived experience as gay dads. When we were blessed to become the dads of our son in 2007, we literally knew one single gay dad and one couple who were raising a child. We felt isolated and alone and didn’t have an avenue for finding other gay dads. So we thought: let’s do something about this.
Are there any men (past or present) you particularly admire or who have influenced you?
We greatly admire the generations of gay men who came before who didn’t have the opportunity to live an authentic and open life and be a father, as well the generation of men we lost to HIV/AIDS. It’s their shoulders we stand on today, and their sacrifice that allows us to be gay fathers today. There’s not a day that goes by that we don’t remember that.
What’s the last great book you read or great movie you watched?
We are both nerds and fan boys at heart, so we’d have to say Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and yes, even Batman vs. Superman!
Are you hoping that your son carries on the work you are doing?
Our hope for our son is that he finds something to do that he is passionate about — his life’s work.
What have you learned about yourself as a result of this work?
When we were growing up, you still couldn’t be out like we are today. This work has shown us that we can be ourselves and be out there.
How can others learn about you, get in touch, or support your work?
